In Singapore, as our government targets to phase out petrol cars by 2040, buying such a “traditional” petrol car might not be the wisest decision financially. With these greener cars not only are you helping our mother earth, but you also get to enjoy some rebates along the way and additional saving from the seemingly ever rising petrol prices. Today, we are here to share with you some of Singapore’s Green Cars that we love.
Suzuki Swift Mild Hybrid ($85,900) (VES A2)
If you are looking for an affordable car that is considered greener than most, you can consider the Suzuki Swift Mild Hybrid. With its modern styling and compact size, it is a great choice for a vehicle if you do not need much space. Not to mention, parking will be significantly easier as well. You are looking to get travel for about 24km for 1 litre of petrol. Whereas a normal petrol only cars can usually travel 12-15km for every litre. If the displacement of 1.2L is sufficient, this car brings a lot of value such as Apple Carplay, Automated LED headlights and Safety features.
(If you feel that it may be underpowered for you, consider our next pick!)
Honda Jazz Hybrid ($101,999) (VES A2)
How about this hatchback that recently got a significant redesign? Now, it comes with a 1.5L hybrid engine, you get to travel 26.3km per litre. Honda is renowned for producing reliable cars and this is no exception. This car comes with many features such as Automated LED headlight, safety features and Apple carplay.
Nissan Kicks E-power Hybrid ($108,988) (VES A2)
Cars these days are packed with technologies compared to just a couple years back. Here is another car that comes with tons of tech! With basically all the above mentioned, this car is suited if you are looking for a more sophisticated and spacious car. However, that maturity and extra space you get comes at a slight cost of fuel economy. It still does an amazing 21km per litre.
Hyundai Ioniq Electric ($122,999) (VES A1)
Perhaps you are considering a fully electric car instead. With it’s 38.3Kwh battery, you are looking at a maximum range of 311km and 11.7kwh per 100km. It would cost about $2.68 which is equivalent to 1 litre of petrol. Although there will be some downtime, the potential savings will definitely be worth it! The Hyundai Ioniq Electric too comes with a lot of safety features and are similar to those above.
Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus ($158,847) (VES A1)
I believe there is little introduction that is needed for this car. Technologically packed to the extent where this car can drive it if you pay for the additional features that is. This is the car that gives the most value in our opinion here. If you have the conception that fully electric cars are boring and slow, this will surprise you. With an acceleration of 5.6s to 100km and over 300 horsepower, this is not a car to be reckoned with. Based on these power numbers alone compared with the price, the Model 3 is already an incredibly value for money car. Parallel importers were selling this car at about $200,000 and people were still buying them. The Model 3 also has a maximum range of 448km and 11.9kwh per 100km. This is definitely one car that has the price to performance and the savings from not needing any petrol. A must buy if you are always looking for the most value for money cars.
Thank you for reading and we hope that these cars that we suggested are able to assist you in your next green purchase! We feel that hybrid vehicles allow the best of both worlds in regard to being a more environmentally friendly counterpart to full petrol vehicles and the more convenient for the many of us where we are not able to easily find charging stations.
However, that being said, the charging infrastructure will ever be improving and if you chose to be an early adopter of electric vehicles, you are able to find value for money vehicles such as the Model 3.
